A group of Ugandan citizens has formally petitioned the Inspectorate of Government, accusing Anita Annet Among of allegedly breaching provisions of the Leadership Code Act relating to declaration of income, assets, and liabilities. The complaint, dated Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and received by the Inspectorate of Government, cites Sections of the Leadership Code Act, Cap. 33, which requires leaders to submit periodic declarations of their wealth.

The petitioners—Andrew Karamagi, Mercy Munduru, Kato Tumusiime, Gift Grace Achilla, Praise Aloikin, and Godwin Toko—allege that the Speaker either failed to submit the required declarations or under-declared her assets. They are seeking an investigation and disclosure of any declarations submitted to the Inspectorate.

In the petition, the group invokes the Inspectorate of Government’s mandate under the Inspectorate of Government Act, Cap. 32, to examine compliance with leadership accountability laws. They argue that failure to properly declare assets attracts penalties, including possible sanctions such as removal from office and forfeiture of undeclared property if wrongdoing is established.

The petitioners further state their willingness to cooperate fully with any investigations that may be launched by the Inspectorate. As of publication time, neither Among nor the Inspectorate of Government had publicly responded to the allegations.
