Kyambogo University is mourning the passing of Mr. Kamugisha Brighton, a third-year, second-semester student in the Bachelor of Textiles and Apparel Design programme, attached to Kulubya Hall.
In a death announcement dated May 14, 2026 and addressed to Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka, Dean of Students Bridget Mugume confirmed that Mr. Brighton, registration number 23/U/TAD/06361/PD, was found dead in his hostel room. Police intervened and transported the body to the City Morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The cause of death has been determined to be Hypertrophic Heart Disease — a condition affecting the heart muscle that can go undetected, particularly in young people.
Kamugisha Brighton will be laid to rest on Saturday at Ntungamo District, Itojo-Rwenyonyozi village — his ancestral home. The university vehicle carrying the deceased departed at 6:00 PM.
A delegation of 48 students from his faculty and friends will attend his send-off, in line with the university’s Student Burial Policy. The family has been supported through the same policy.
The Kyambogo University community, his classmates, faculty, and everyone who knew Brighton are in our thoughts during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Brighton.
