A host of ministers were up the podium to take oath this afternoon, joined by legislators who have been out of the House for one or more terms.

Former Prime Minister, Hon. Amama Mbabazi returned to the House today, not to take oath but to accompany his wife, Jacqueline Mbabazi, who joins Parliament as a representative of Older Persons (Western). Hon. Amama Mbabazi was MP for Kinkiizi West in Kanungu until 2016.

In the same session, third Deputy Premier, Hon. Rukia Nakadama Isanga, Ministers, Hon. Matia Kasaija (Finance, Planning and Economic Development), Hon. Nobert Mao (Justice and Constitutional Affairs), Hon. Judith Nabakooba (Lands, Housing and Urban Development); Hon. Margaret Muhanga Mugisa (State for Health) took the oaths of allegiance of Member of Parliament.

Hon. Nakadama (NRM, Mayuge district woman representative); Hon. Kasaija (NRM, Buyanja County, Kibaale district); Hon. Mao (DP, Laroo-Pece Div. Gulu City), Hon. Nabakooba (NRM, Mityana district woman representative); Hon. Muhanga (NRM, Fort Portal North Div., Fort Portal City).

Former Uganda’s representatives to the East African Legislative Assembly, Hon. Suzan Nakawuki (NRM, Mawokota County South, Mpigi district) who was accompanied by former Minister and MP Alintuma Nsambu, and Hon. Dennis Namara (NRM, Buyaga West County, Kagadi district) also swore-in today.

Journalist, Hon. Eriasa Mukiibi Sserunjogi (Ind., Butambala County, Butambala district) took oath; Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola (NUP, Kawempe Div North, Kampala) – the last member to join the 11th Parliament through a by election, also took oath this afternoon.

Hon. Nalukoola together with party colleague, Kira Municipality’s Hon. George Musisi were accompanied by NUP Treasurer, Benjamin Katana and Opposition Whip, John Baptist Nambeshe to the podium.

Hon. Nambeshe (NUP, Manjiya County Bududa district) was to later take oath to close off Day 2 of the MPs’ swearing-in, during which up to 170 members took oath. In the two days, 354 or over half of the members have sworn-in.

The swearing-in of MPs to the 12th Parliament continues and ends tomorrow, Friday, 15 May 2026.
