As of Friday afternoon, majority, MPs had stopped taking phone calls from former speaker Anita Among. The reason is that they got reports that, as her close allies and aides get summoned to answer fraud-related questions, she must already be under 24-hour surveillance.

The MPs are scared after seeing online reports showing that she had been ordered not to leave Kampala and to also not speak to new MPs who will be participating in speakership voting. She isn’t supposed to leave the country either.

Activities that had been organized including a party at one of Kampala’s top hotels for her swearing in evening was also called off at the last minute after organizers feared that very few MPs would risk to turn up for it. As such every MP she rings fears to pick thinking the government spies must be tapping her phone.

A few minutes to 5pm on Friday, she rang and one of the MPs took the risk to pick but the MP was shocked when someone very big in security rang him saying ‘you are being watched.’ This scared more MPs to keep far away from the sinking Anita Among.

On Friday, one of the big men in parliament was grilled by investigators who asked him about the 200 ghost workers on the parliament payroll who are paid every month yet they don’t do any work for parliament. These are based in Bukedea the home area of the former speaker.

He was also questioned about 4.15bn which a few days ago was passed through the parliament sacco and went to people in speaker’s office. He was asked why they have always been using the sacco to move such big money in one batch and the purposes for which such money would be released. He was also asked why money has been deposited on individual staff bank accounts during the period when Among served as speaker yet it was not the case under Kadaga.

The officer from parliament was also quizzed about Usd5k the speaker gets in Perdiem daily yet Kadaga was getting just of Usd900. It’s also being asked why the new accounting officer Anold Mwesige at parliament didn’t compare with the contents of the hand over report that he received from Jane Kibirige the former clerk under Kadaga’s days. There are groups of investigators looking at different forms of fraud at parliament in the last five years.

Masaka mp Justine Namere who had become the fearless muchuba defending Anita Among has been ordered to back off or risk facing severe political consequences since NUP’s Rose Naluboowa is challenging her win in court. Fearing to lose her seat, Namere has accepted to abandon Among and keep very far away from her because she is now full of political problems.
