Child Dies, Another Injured in Najeera Gate Accident; Gatekeeper Arrested

Wakiso District—Police at Kira Road have launched an investigation into a tragic incident of rush and neglect act causing death, following an accident that occurred on May 14, 2026, at around 6:00 PM in Najeera, Kira Municipality.

According to police, the incident happened when Eegu James, a gatekeeper, was closing the gate at his employer’s home and accidentally struck two children who were playing nearby.

The victims, both children of Peter Wampalu and aged 4 and 7, were rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment. Tragically, 7-year-old Amir Abrahim Adam succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The younger child sustained severe injuries and is receiving medical care.

The gatekeeper, Eegu James, is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Police spokesperson SP Kawala Racheal urged all caregivers and workers to exercise utmost caution, especially around children, to prevent similar tragedies.
