Celebrated gospel singer Julie Mutesasira has spoken about how her family reacted when she revealed her sexual orientation.
Julie, who currently lives in Canada, said the news initially came as a shock to some family members, including her parents, but they eventually accepted her and supported her decision to live authentically.
Speaking in a YouTube interview with Kayz, the singer said her mother encouraged her to pursue what brings her happiness.
“It was a shock to my family at first, but they accepted me. My mother told me to do whatever makes me happy,†Julie Mutesasira said.
She also revealed that she later had conversations with her children after relocating to Canada, and they too accepted her decision.
According to Julie, the support from both her parents and children gave her peace and allowed her to live comfortably with her choices.
Julie Mutesasira has in recent years openly shared aspects of her personal life since relocating abroad, where she has continued to pursue music and her new life.
