Museveni Reportedly Meets Electoral Officials Over Post-Election District Disputes
KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Museveni has reportedly summoned Electoral Commission officials from several districts over disputes arising from the January general elections.
According to journalist Tabz, the meeting is said to have focused on electoral concerns in Masaka, Mitooma, and Bukedea districts, where questions have been raised following the declaration of results.
In Masaka, National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Justine Nameere was declared winner after a recount, amid allegations of tampered ballot papers.
In Mitooma, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa secured a decisive victory, while Bukedea’s Woman MP seat held by Speaker Anita Annet Among has also faced scrutiny alongside discussions around a related by-election.
The reported development has generated mixed reactions on social media, with some observers describing it as a step toward electoral accountability, while others have urged caution, noting that the claims remain unverified.
Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao has also been cited as hinting at further developments, saying “stay tuned,” though no official confirmation has been issued.
Radio host Doctar Freddie has, however, dismissed the claims as speculation, stating that there has been no official communication from State House or the Electoral Commission regarding such a meeting.
As of now, there is no formal confirmation from State House or the Electoral Commission on the reported meeting.
