KAMPALA, Uganda — Police in Kampala Metropolitan area have arrested five suspects after successfully foiling a planned robbery targeting a man transporting money to a bank in Wandegeya.

The suspects have been identified as Ivan Gizamba, Rogers Muyingo, Juma Ashford, Musa Masiga, and James Wanyama.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday morning after security agencies received credible information about the planned attack.

Police said they were alerted on May 15, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. that a group of suspected robbers was plotting to ambush a victim who was expected to collect a bag containing cash from Kalerwe and later deposit it with a bank agent in Wandegeya.

“The suspects had reportedly planned to attack the victim during the transaction,” SP Kawala said.

Acting swiftly on the information, Police mounted an operation that led to the arrest of the five suspects. Two motorcycles, registration numbers UGG 664A and UMA 567JW, believed to have been intended for use in the operation, were also impounded.

Security sources further revealed that one of the suspects, Ivan Gizamba, is considered a key figure in the group and is suspected to be linked to several aggravated robberies across the Kampala Metropolitan area. These include incidents reported at Kitezi Hardware Shop in Wakiso District, Gwanda Mall, and Centenary Bank in Kampala.

Police have since said investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to track down other suspects believed to be part of the wider criminal network.

Authorities have commended the swift intelligence response that prevented what could have been a violent robbery.
