Representatives of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have been officially sworn in to serve in the 12th Parliament of Uganda during a ceremony held from 13 to 15 May 2026 at Parliament House in Kampala.

The swearing-in followed President Museveni’s inauguration for another term, held on May 12, 2026 at Kololo Independence Grounds.

In his remarks during the process, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces and newly elected UPDF Member of Parliament, Lt Gen Sam Okiding, expressed appreciation to President Museveni for what he described as visionary leadership in stabilising Uganda and promoting socio-economic transformation.

Lt Gen Okiding also commended the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the UPDF leadership for maintaining peace, security, and stability within Uganda and beyond.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that Uganda remains stable, fight the common enemy which is poverty so that our people are uplifted, and also combat corruption for the prosperity of our nation,” he said.

Lt Gen Okiding further emphasised that UPDF representatives would serve with integrity, truth, and commitment while representing both the army and the people of Uganda in Parliament.

He congratulated fellow UPDF representatives and reaffirmed their pledge to uphold righteousness and faithfully serve in the 12th Parliament.

The swearing-in comes after President Museveni’s inauguration address, in which he reiterated his commitment to cooperation with neighbouring countries and the creation of wealth for Ugandans. He also noted that his re-election reflects Uganda’s broad-based democratic system designed to ensure representation of all sections of society.

Since the promulgation of the 1995 Constitution under the National Resistance Movement, Special Interest Groups—including workers, youth, persons with disabilities, women, older persons, and the armed forces—have been represented in Parliament to ensure inclusive participation in national decision-making.

Among those sworn in as UPDF representatives in the 12th Parliament were Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, Lt Gen James Mujira, Maj Gen Henry Matsiko, Maj Gen James Kinalwa, Maj Gen Joseph Ssemwanga, Brig Gen David Gonyi, Col Night Ikiriza, Col Sylvia Meme, and Col Christine Nekesa.
