Kayunga, Uganda: Moses Karangwa Kaliisa, the Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Duties and Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kayunga District, has died following a fatal road accident in Kayunga.

According to preliminary reports, Karangwa was involved in the crash at Ssukka Village near the Lake Oil area on Sunday evening.

Details surrounding the accident were still emerging by press time, although sources indicated the crash was severe and claimed his life instantly.

Karangwa was a prominent mobiliser within the ruling NRM party and had recently contested for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for Central Region before reportedly withdrawing from the race at the last minute.

His withdrawal, according to political insiders, came after closer engagements with President Museveni at State House Entebbe, which later culminated into his appointment as Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Duties.

Before relocating his political activities to Kayunga, Karangwa had previously served as NRM Chairperson for Jinja Municipality, where he built a reputation as a vocal party mobiliser and grassroots organiser.

Karangwa’s death sends shockwaves through NRM structures, particularly in Buganda and Busoga regions where he remained politically influential. He was the proprietor of Sauti FM, Kayunga’s only radio station, alongside other business ventures in the central region.

By press time, the police had yet to issue an official statement regarding the fatal accident.
