KAMPALA — Family members of Chris Obore and police sources have dismissed social media claims alleging that the Parliament communications chief had been arrested and that Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige had appeared before CID for questioning.

The claims had circulated widely online through blogger Nyine Tabz amid the widening political and security crisis surrounding former Speaker Anita Annet Among.

But family sources said Obore has been upcountry since earlier this week and is neither under arrest nor in hiding.

“Obore is not arrested and he is not in hiding as claimed by some bloggers,” one family member said.

Efforts to reach Obore directly were unsuccessful by Sunday evening as his known mobile phone remained switched off.

At the same time, a police source also dismissed reports that Mwesige had appeared before CID headquarters in Kibuli for questioning.

“Adolf has not appeared at CID headquarters in Kibuli as earlier said by bloggers,” the source said.

Obore serves as Director of Communications and Public Affairs at the Parliament of Uganda and has over the years emerged as one of Parliament’s most visible public defenders, frequently appearing on television and radio talk shows to defend Parliament’s work and respond to criticism directed at Among and legislators.

The rumours emerged amid escalating investigations into alleged illicit enrichment, money laundering and undeclared wealth involving Among, whose residences in Nakasero and Kigo have been subjected to searches by joint security teams.
