Mildred Tuhaise tells Next Media she is leaving at the end of May
Mildred Tuhaise, the husky-voiced anchor and senior reporter, is set to leave Next Media at the end of this month, impeccable sources at Naguru have told Bbeg Media.
We have been told that Tuhaise tendered her notice of resignation at the beginning of this month. However, management is yet to officially respond to it.
In the meantime, however, management had decided to reduce Tuhaise’s screen time. Sources say that senior editors have been told to use Tracy Kansiime, who joined the station a year ago, as Tuhaise’s replacement.
Kansiime performed well on election night and was the anchor of the live broadcast over the weekend as security raided former speaker, Anita Among’s properties.
Besides hosting the People & Power show, Tuhaise has been co-anchor with Simon Kaggwa of the Morning Breeze Show and the 4 PM news bulletin.
Many female reporters list her as someone who inspired them to join broadcast journalism.
Mildred did not respond to our calls and messages.
Tension
Over the last couple of years, it has not been a smooth ride for Tuhaise, who joined NBS TV from WBS TV in 2015.
Sources told us that she had more or less fallen out with some members of senior management, and as late as September last year, it had been speculated that she was on her way out.
Tuhaise started concentrating on her private ventures, something that did not go down well with some senior managers.
In April, when she wrote a lengthy post on her X handle in which she paid tribute to the Naguru-based media group for giving her a platform to excel, sources say she was trying to pass on a specific message.
Now she is set to leave for good.
One of Tuhaise’s co-workers at Next Media told Bbeg Media that Tuhaise’s biggest mistake was to vigorously display her other private businessess on social media.
“That showed that her plans were elsewhere, not Next Media. No employer is happy to know that their staff is involved in other things that bring them money outside of their job,” said the co-worker.
