JUST IN: NUP beats NRM Hands Down To Take Speakership At KCCA Council

Following the swearing in Lord Mayor Engineer Ronald Balimwezo and all Lord Councilors from the five divisions of Kampala who will sit on the KCCA council, they have convened today to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

National Unity Platform last week endorsed Nakawa Councilor John Mary Ssebuwuufu who beat all the other NUP candidates in an election held at the party’s offices in Makerere- Kavule. Ssebuwuufu who also sits on the party’s Elections Management Committee is the candidate whom NUP presented for the Speakership at KCCA today.

John Mary Ssebuwuufu won the elections with 18 votes beating the NRM candidate Kalule Ali who got 16 votes. NUP Councilor Olive Namazzi has also been declared Deputy speaker of KCCA council. She polled 20 votes defeating National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Nicholas Kwarijja who polled 15 votes.

This is the 2nd term that NUP is dominating affairs at KCCA. Zahara Luyirika won by a huge margin to become the KCCA speaker for the term 2021-2026 replacing Abubaker Kawalya who is now just won his 2nd term in parliament. Luyirika also won a parliamentary seat in Makindye West.
