Shock as Busoga East Police Officer Found Dead in Koboko
Police in Koboko District are investigating the sudden death of a police officer who was found dead inside his house on Saturday afternoon under unclear circumstances.
The deceased has been identified as Special Police Constable Ayiki Joseph, 41, an Akakwa by tribe attached to Busoga East Regional Police Headquarters and a resident of Gbulabulanga Cell, Telemunga Ward in Koboko District.
According to the preliminary police report registered under Koboko Police Station CRB 239/2026, the officer was discovered dead on 24th May 2026, after his tenant became suspicious when the security light at his house veranda remained switched on throughout the day.
Police say the tenant had left for church at around 8:00 a.m. and returned at about 1:00 p.m., only to notice that the security light was still on, something unusual because the deceased reportedly switched it off every morning. She later peeped through the window at around 3:00 p.m. and saw the officer lying on his bed facing upwards.
The tenant reportedly contacted her husband by phone, who in turn informed a motorcycle rider identified only as Bait to check on the officer. Upon arrival, Bait reportedly found the house locked from inside and alerted the deceased’s cousin, Ronald Baiga, 47.
Baiga later reported the matter to police after efforts to open the door failed.
Police officers led by the District Criminal Investigations team visited the scene and forced the door open before finding the officer lying dead on his bed with foam visible around his nose.
Investigators noted that the deceased was dressed in khaki trousers and a black long-sleeved shirt and had been covered with a white bedsheet.
Police further established that the deceased was last seen alive on Friday evening at around 5:00 p.m. when he was reportedly preparing to leave for an unknown destination.
The body was later taken to Koboko Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations into the exact cause of death continue.
Police said inquiries into the incident are still ongoing.
