Shock as Mukono Councillor Dies Moments After Swearing-In Ceremony

The deceased, Henry Kitatta Naggwano, an NRM councillor representing Katente Ward, was on Friday pronounced dead just minutes after participating in the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected local leaders.

According to reports, Kitatta had been receiving treatment at a health facility before reportedly requesting to be discharged so he could attend the ceremony.

Witnesses said the councillor appeared weak during the function before his condition suddenly worsened.

The deceased, councillor Kitatta, a few minutes before he was declared dead.

The incident has left residents in disbelief, especially after recalling a similar tragedy in 2021 when another councillor representing the same ward reportedly died shortly after assuming office.

Despite the shocking incident, the swearing-in ceremony continued as scheduled, with the remaining councillors taking their oaths alongside newly elected Nakisunga sub-county Chairperson Stephen Mufuuwa.

Mufuuwa, who contested on the NRM ticket, officially took over leadership from former chairperson Mubarak Ssekikubo. Ssekikubo had vacated the seat to contest for the Mukono South Member of Parliament position but lost to NUP’s Robert Maseruka in the recent elections.

Residents and local leaders have since expressed condolences to Kitatta’s family as the community struggles to come to terms with the sudden loss.
