I’ve lost nearly 100 Billion in Raid: Anita Among Stares at Luzira as Museveni Drops All Immunity
Former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among is now fully exposed to arrest and prosecution after losing all formal protections that previously came with her office.
As of May 28, 2026, she holds no position in government, and her name is absent from President Museveni’s latest cabinet appointments, effectively stripping her of any immunity.
In recent weeks, security agencies have intensified investigations into her rapid accumulation of wealth, carrying out raids on her residences and impounding several of her vehicles. Among has reportedly confided in close associates that she has lost nearly 100 billion shillings as a result of these operations.
Despite the sweeping raids and public scrutiny, Among has not yet been arrested. Legal experts say this is a calculated move by investigators who want to avoid a premature arrest that could see her quickly regain temporary freedom under Uganda’s 48-hour rule.
Article 23 of the 1995 Constitution and the Police Act require that any suspect held by police must be produced in court within 48 hours or released on bond, unless a magistrate grants an extension.
According to lawyers, authorities are therefore racing to complete a watertight case before taking Among into custody, a step that could mark one of the most high-profile anti-corruption actions of Museveni’s current term.
