Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has tabled a motion before Parliament seeking approval to expand the size of Cabinet and the Executive in the new government for the 2026–2031 term.
Nabbanja, who also serves as the Kakumiro District Woman MP, proposed increasing the number of Cabinet ministers from 21 to 30.
The motion further seeks Parliament’s approval to raise the number of other ministers, including ministers of state, from 21 to 51.
The proposal was presented as Members of Parliament considered the structure and size of the Executive that will serve under President Yoweri Museveni’s newly unveiled administration.
Nabbanja is serving a second term as Prime Minister after Parliament approved her reappointment earlier today.
President Museveni on Tuesday released the list of Cabinet members for the 2026–2031 term of office, setting the stage for parliamentary approval and the formation of the new government.
The expansion has significantly increased the number of ministers serving in the Executive, a move which has triggered debate over government expenditure and the size of public administration.
