Kassanda: Land Row Ends in Arson Attack
Police in Kassanda District are hunting for four suspects accused of burning homes in a land dispute in Bakule Cell, Bukuya Town Council.
According to police, the incident followed a clash over a piece of kibanja land under dispute between Nalubwama Eunice, 53, and a one Byamukama Lauben, a case already before court. On 28 May 2026 at around 7:00am, Nalubwama reportedly sent five casual labourers to till the contested land. At about 10:00am, Byamukama allegedly found the workers digging, returned with four men armed with pangas and sticks, and attacked them.
The labourers fled but were reportedly pursued up to their homes, where the attackers allegedly set their houses on fire, destroying all household property. The victims have been identified as Ssemuli Moses and Nganda Meddy. The suspects, named as Byamukama Lauben, Sekyanzi Khalid, Muyanja and Daniel, are currently on the run.
A case of arson was reported at Bukuya Police Station. Police say the scene was visited and documented, and statements from victims and witnesses recorded. SSP L. Kigozi, PRO Wamala Region, said inquiries are ongoing and urged the public to avoid mob justice and other acts of lawlessness in land-related disputes, advising residents to seek help from the Resident District Commissioner’s office and other lawful channels.
