MBARARA CITY — Police in Mbarara City have arrested 30 additional individuals suspected to be members of the Global Alliance in Motion, in an ongoing security operation targeting the group’s alleged activities in the area.

The suspects were picked up from various residences in Biafra Cell, where authorities say some were living in overcrowded conditions, with up to 10 people reportedly sharing a single room.

According to security sources, the latest arrests form part of a wider crackdown following a major operation conducted last week in Rwentondo and Lubiri cells, during which 214 suspected members of the same group were detained.

Police have not yet disclosed the specific offences linked to the suspects, but said investigations are ongoing to establish the nature of the group’s operations and their activities within Mbarara City.

Residents in the affected areas have described heightened police presence and continued surveillance as security agencies expand their operations.

Authorities have maintained that the crackdown is aimed at addressing what they term suspicious gatherings and ensuring public order, while further interrogations of the suspects are underway.

By press time, police had not issued a formal charge sheet, and it remains unclear when the suspects will be presented in court.

The operation is expected to continue as investigators pursue additional leads linked to the group’s network in western Uganda.
