Unverified reports circulating on social media have alleged that Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi experienced delays upon arrival at Budapest Airport in Hungary due to concerns linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in parts of the DRC.

According to the claims, President Tshisekedi had traveled to Hungary with a delegation to attend a major football event involving French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and English side Arsenal at Budapest’s famous Puskás Aréna.

Social media posts alleged that Hungarian airport authorities initially denied the Congolese leader entry, citing a lack of prior notification regarding his arrival and concerns surrounding the Ebola outbreak currently affecting parts of eastern Congo.

The reports further claimed that the President’s brother, Christian Tshisekedi, had arrived in Hungary several days earlier alongside friends after reportedly traveling through Brussels using private aircraft.

However, as of publication, there has been no official confirmation from the DRC government, Hungarian authorities, airport officials, or any major international news organization regarding the alleged incident. The claims therefore remain unverified.

The rumors emerged against the backdrop of growing concerns over a deadly Ebola outbreak in the DRC’s Ituri Province. Health authorities have reported confirmed infections and fatalities, while neighboring Uganda has also heightened surveillance measures following cross-border health alerts.

Recently, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, visited affected areas in eastern Congo and called for increased international support to contain the outbreak. Health officials continue to face challenges including insecurity, population displacement, and resistance to certain disease-control measures.

The unverified reports have nonetheless fueled debate on social media, with some users questioning international travel protocols during public health emergencies, while others criticized what they described as misinformation in the absence of official statements.

Until confirmed by credible authorities or reputable news organizations, the alleged airport incident involving President Tshisekedi should be treated as speculation rather than established fact.
