Museveni Asked to Rescue Dropped Teso Ministers with New Gov’t Appointments
SOROTI, Uganda — A section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters in the Teso sub-region has appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to consider appointing former ministers from the region to other government positions following the recent Cabinet reshuffle.
The residents said they respect the President’s decision to make changes in Cabinet but believe some of the dropped ministers still have valuable experience and can continue serving the country in other capacities.
Speaking to this publication, several residents specifically mentioned former ministers Hon. Musa Ecweru, Gen. Jeje Odongo, and Hon. Hellen Adoa Abeku, urging the President to find suitable roles for them so they can remain actively involved in community mobilization and government programs, particularly wealth creation initiatives.
Betty Akot, a resident of Soroti, said the leaders have played significant roles in the development of the region and should not be left out of public service.
“We are appealing to our President to consider giving them other responsibilities. Hon. Musa Ecweru and Hon. Hellen Adoa lost their parliamentary seats, but they still have the capacity to serve the people and support government programs,” she said.
Another resident, David Odunge, argued that the former ministers possess vast experience acquired over years of public service and should continue contributing to national development.
“As people of Teso, we believe the President has not forgotten Musa Ecweru, Hellen Adoa, and Gen. Jeje Odongo. They have served this country diligently, and we feel they should be considered for other positions where their experience can still benefit Uganda,” Odunge said.
The appeal comes in the wake of recent Cabinet changes that saw several ministers dropped as President Museveni restructured his government ahead of a new term.
Residents say retaining experienced leaders in other strategic positions would not only preserve institutional knowledge but also strengthen the implementation of government programs in the region.
While the President has not publicly commented on the appeals from Teso residents, supporters remain hopeful that the veteran leaders will be given opportunities to continue serving the country in different capacities.
