BUSHENYI SHOCKER: Woman Killed, Two Injured in Brutal Machete Attack as Police Hunt Suspect
BUSHENYI, Uganda — Police in Bushenyi District have launched a manhunt for an unidentified assailant following a brutal machete attack that left one woman dead and two others seriously injured over the weekend.
The deceased has been identified as Bamucungura Edisa, 64, who succumbed to her injuries after the violent incident that also left two other victims hospitalized.
The attack occurred on Sunday, 31st May 2026, at around 8:00 pm in Kanyamitera Cell, Bitooma Town Council, Bushenyi District.
According to preliminary information, an unidentified male suspect armed with a panga stormed a home where the three victims were preparing food. He allegedly attacked them without any warning or apparent provocation before fleeing the scene.
Bamucungura Edisa died at the scene, while the two other victims—whose identities have been withheld pending notification of their families—sustained serious injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at Comboni Hospital.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, confirmed the incident, noting that officers responded swiftly and secured the crime scene in line with standard procedure.
The body of the deceased was taken to Comboni Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Police say efforts are underway to track down the suspect, who remains at large.
“We are working tirelessly to establish the motive behind this heinous act and bring the perpetrator to justice. We strongly condemn such acts of criminality and lawlessness, and we pledge to deal with them without any leniency,” SP Tayebwa said.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation, urging witnesses to report to the nearest police station as inquiries continue.
