Rukungiri: Man Dies After Wife Cuts His Throat Over Love Dispute in Buyanja
Residents of Rwenanura Cell in Nyabiteete Parish, Buyanja Sub-county, are in shock after a woman identified as Patience Akankwatsa allegedly murdered her husband, Bruce Niwamanya, in a suspected love-related dispute.
Rwenanura LCI chairperson Eliab Tugume confirmed the incident, saying trouble began yesterday when Akankwatsa visited Niwamanya to pick up their child, a request he accepted and even gave her two months’ rent. However, Akankwatsa reportedly accused Niwamanya of marrying another woman, Shivani Asiimwe, whom he had been living with for two weeks. Tugume said Akankwatsa returned to Niwamanya’s shop this afternoon armed with a sharp knife, which she allegedly used to slit his throat, killing him on the spot.
Asiimwe told reporters that she found Akankwatsa slaughtering her husband behind the shop, prompting her to raise an alarm that attracted neighbors, who apprehended the suspect. Tugume said police officers from Buyanja Police Post responded quickly, rescuing Akankwatsa from a mob and taking her to Buyanja Health Centre III in critical condition. Niwamanya’s body was also taken to the same facility for a postmortem.
Nyabiteete Parish councillor Charles Karahukayo condemned the incident, noting that murder cases in the area are common and blaming them on chronic alcoholism
