Repeat Offender Arrested for Impersonating URA Commissioner General and Senior Tax Officials
Kampala—A man suspected of repeatedly impersonating top Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials, including the Commissioner General, has been arrested in a joint operation by security and URA intelligence teams.
The suspect, identified as Thomas Odeke, allegedly posed as Commissioner General John Musinguzi, and on other occasions as the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes, Commissioner of Customs, and various URA tax officers. URA Assistant Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs, Robert Kalumba, confirmed the arrest, noting that Odeke’s impersonations targeted unsuspecting members of the public across different locations.
Odeke was apprehended on Monday while driving a vehicle with registration number UA541DM, following a public tip-off. He is now in police custody pending further investigation.
Kalumba appealed to taxpayers to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons to URA via the toll-free line 0800257700. He also cautioned against making tax payments to personal phone numbers, reminding the public that all official taxes must be paid through recognized banking channels.
