Parliament rejects job applications from MPs who lost their seats in the 2026 elections

Several former members of parliament who lost their seats in the 2026 general elections applied for jobs at Parliament and were allegedly rejected.

According to Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige, the former MPs did apply for positions in the Parliamentary Service but none of them was hired, except one who was appointed on President Museveni’s advice.

“Some former MPs expressed commitment to join the Parliamentary Service in writing, but their application was not considered,” Mwesige told the Daily Monitor.

Mwesige, who is also Parliament’s Accounting Officer, said the applications came in before investigations started into the previous leadership of Parliament under former Speaker Anita Among. He confirmed that only one ex-MP is currently on staff.

“We only have one former MP who was employed on the advice of the President. He had previously worked in the Parliamentary Service before becoming a legislator and is a full-time member of staff,” he said.

This comes after reports on social media alleged that several allies of Among were recruited into roles in the Office of the Speaker, Executive Secretary’s Office, Research Directorate, Protocol Office, Hansard Department, Clerk’s Office and consultancy units.
