Media personality and YouTuber Isaac Daniel Katende, popularly known as Kasuku, has come under criticism following comments he made about the widow of slain rugby player Sydney Gongodyo.

Gongodyo, a 27-year-old forward for the Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates, died on June 5, 2026, after he was allegedly attacked by a mob in Ntinda, Kampala, over accusations of theft. Subsequent CCTV footage reportedly showed that the rugby star was innocent, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice under the hashtag #JusticeForSydney.

Amid the ongoing mourning, a video clip circulating on social media captured Kasuku making remarks about Gongodyo’s widow that many users deemed inappropriate and insensitive given the circumstances surrounding the player’s death.

The comments quickly triggered backlash online, with critics accusing the veteran gossip commentator of lacking empathy and seeking attention at a time when the focus should be on justice for the deceased and support for his grieving family.

Several social media users described the remarks as disrespectful to both Gongodyo’s memory and his widow, while others argued that such comments had no place during a period of national mourning.

A section of Kasuku’s supporters, however, defended him, arguing that his comments reflected the style of entertainment and celebrity commentary he is known for.

As debate continued online, Kasuku had not publicly addressed the criticism or responded to the growing calls for an apology by press time.

The controversy comes as Ugandans continue to demand accountability over the circumstances that led to Gongodyo’s death.
