Albertine police impound 3 bajaj boxers with altered number plates
At least three Bajaj boxer motorcycles possessing forged and altered registration number plates have been impounded by police in the Albertine Region.
The motorcycles were impounded during an intensified security effort to curb down vehicle related theft and crime in the region.
Speaking to tndNews, Uganda, the Albertine Regional Police PRO, ASP Julius Allan Hakiza said the motorcycles were intercepted following investigations conducted with the help of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed across the region.
Hakiza revealed that the impounded motorcycles bear registration numbers UFP 482Q, UGB 712Y, and UEQ 127K, respectively.
All the motorcycles were recovered in Hoima City and are currently being held at the Albertine Regional Police headquarters to facilitate further investigations, he said.
ASP Hakiza also noted that police had been receiving suspicious reports indicating that motorcycles bearing the same registration numbers were in different districts of the region, thus drawing their attention closer.
He urged members of the public to exercise caution by verifying registration details of motorcycles when buying to curb down crime.
“Always be vigilant while buying and purchasing motorcycles. Always take due diligence to verify the details of the motorcycles before buying,” he urged.
Hakiza also warned individuals against dealing in vehicles and motorcycles with forged registration numbers, saying such illegality can lead to legal action in accordance with the law.
However, the police did not disclose any arrest in connection with the matter.
Meanwhile, different waves of motorcycle and vehicle thefts and crimes remain on the rise in the Albertine (Bunyoro) amid police efforts to fight the vice.
