MP Kabanda Breaks Silence on Reports That He Impregnated Anita Among’s Maids

For years, the rumour has refused to die. It has resurfaced in political gossip, social media debates and public exchanges between politicians. This week, Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda finally decided to confront it head-on.

Appearing on The Direct Shot on YouTube, the outspoken legislator was asked about long-standing allegations that he impregnated domestic workers who worked for former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

Rather than deliver a lengthy defence, Kabanda responded with a question of his own.

“How come they never give birth?” he asked.

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General said the claims have circulated for years without any woman ever presenting a child allegedly fathered by him.

His comments come after the allegation was once again thrust into public conversation by State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere, who recently referenced it while engaging in political exchanges.

For Kabanda, the matter appears settled.

If the accusations were true, he argued, there would by now be tangible evidence rather than endless speculation.

But the paternity allegations were only one part of a wide-ranging interview that unexpectedly turned into a reflection on Kabanda’s personal journey—from struggling student to Member of Parliament and one of the most recognisable figures within Uganda’s political landscape.

At a time when many politicians seek to highlight academic achievements, Kabanda did the opposite.

He openly admitted that his O-Level results were poor.

The discussion was prompted by recent social media posts from Presidential Assistant on Service Delivery Yiga Kisakyamukama, who shared Kabanda’s Uganda Certificate of Education results on TikTok.

Rather than express anger, Kabanda appeared unbothered.

He said he considers Kisakyamukama a son and noted that he was among the people who helped introduce him to the public arena.

The MP acknowledged scoring several F9 grades and said his strongest subjects were English and Agriculture.

According to Kabanda, the results reflected a difficult balancing act between work and school.

While still a student, he was already employed at a radio station, a commitment that left him with little time to attend classes regularly.

“I was busy working,” he explained, suggesting that education had become secondary to earning a living.

Yet the story did not end there.

Kabanda said he applied himself more seriously at A-Level, where he obtained 14 points in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations.

The improved performance earned him a place at Makerere University, Uganda’s premier public university.

However, politics soon intervened.

Kabanda revealed that he eventually abandoned his undergraduate studies as political activities increasingly consumed his time and attention.

Among the more amusing moments from the interview was his recollection of an encounter with Dr Fred Tanga Odoi, the former university lecturer who now chairs the NRM Electoral Commission.

Kabanda recalled being chased out of class by Tanga Odoi during his days at Makerere.

Far from holding a grudge, however, he described the academic as one of the best lecturers he ever encountered.

The anecdote added a human touch to an interview that otherwise dealt with allegations, controversy and scrutiny.

For a politician often at the centre of heated public debate, the conversation offered something different: a glimpse into the setbacks, controversies and unlikely turns that shaped his rise.
