Senior Entebbe NUP Member Defects to Patriotic League of Uganda

The Katabi Town Council Mayoral loser, Ronald Kalema Basamulakere who lost his seat to NRM’s Byenkya Kajura after ruling for two terms in office, has finally quit the National Unity Platform (NUP) and crossed to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

Kalema defected to PLU on June 11, 2026 and was received at PLU offices in Kampala by the PLU Director for Mobilization, Michael Mawanda.

His worship Kalema was initially a proponent of Democratic Party (DP), then crossed to National Unity Platform (NUP) and now has defected to Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

In his maiden message upon crossing to PLU, Kalema said he decided to join PLU because he had for long sought a party where he could get peace unlike in NUP where his fellow party members were ever witch-hunting him to the extent of sidelining him for the party flag and ended up standing as an independent candidate.

Kalema further said he wanted to join a party which posts majority wins across the country and now sees PLU as the right choice and will never regret joining it.
