The Ntare School fraternity is mourning the loss of Arnold Muhwezi, a former student affectionately known as “Tyso” and “Lazarus,” who was laid to rest on Wednesday after he died in a road accident along Mityana Road.

Muhwezi, who had recently joined military training, is being remembered by classmates and friends as a cheerful, humble and easy-going old boy whose infectious smile and love for football made him a familiar figure among members of the Machando class.

News of his death spread rapidly through Ntare Old Boys’ networks, triggering an outpouring of tributes from former schoolmates who recalled his exploits on the football pitch and the warmth he carried throughout his life.

At Ntare School, Muhwezi earned the nickname “Tyso” and became renowned for his dazzling dribbling skills in the popular Kalele football matches.

Many former students this week described him as one of the standout football talents of his generation, whose name often featured whenever old boys debated the finest players from their school days.

His second nickname, “Lazarus,” emerged after he collapsed during a Machando football match years ago but later recovered, a moment friends would jokingly reference for years afterward.

“Tyso was simply an easy-going fellow, very likeable, humble and blessed with an infectious cheerfulness,” one longtime friend wrote in a tribute shared following his burial.

Friends also recalled their surprise when Muhwezi chose to pursue military training, a path many felt contrasted with the playful and gentle character they had known since childhood.

His death has added to a growing list of losses that have struck the Ntare Old Boys community in recent years, reviving memories of other former students who passed away before their time.

As family, friends and former classmates gathered to bid him farewell on Wednesday, many said they would remember Muhwezi not for any title or achievement, but for his kindness, humility and ability to make those around him feel at ease.

For the Ntare fraternity, Arnold Muhwezi will remain “Tyso” — the gifted football dribbler, “Lazarus” — the survivor, and above all, a friend whose untimely death has left a deep void among those who knew him.
