MUSEVENI, PLEASE INTERVENE! Kakumiro Locals Say Nabbanja-Byamukama Feud Is Hurting Service Delivery
KAKUMIRO — Concerned residents of Kakumiro District have appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to intervene and resolve the growing political rivalry between Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja and State Minister for Works Hon. Fred Byamukama, saying the feud is negatively affecting service delivery and development in the district.
The residents claim that the two senior National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders are increasingly preoccupied with demonstrating who enjoys a closer relationship with the President rather than working together to attract development projects and improve the welfare of the people.
Speaking to The Ankole Times, Mzee John Bangizi, a retired teacher, expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of focus on development matters.
“We do not care who is closer to the President because that does not improve our livelihoods. What we need are roads, schools, health facilities, and other development projects that can transform our district,” Bangizi said.
He argued that local leaders should prioritize lobbying for government programs and investments instead of engaging in political competition.
Another resident, Simon Abaho, accused leaders of neglecting key development priorities while concentrating on activities that offer little long-term benefit to the community.
“Instead of lobbying for major government projects, much time is being spent organizing football matches and bringing musicians to entertain people. We need tangible development, not endless political showmanship,” Abaho said.
He further blamed what he described as interference by powerful political actors during previous elections, claiming that some leaders with genuine development agendas were sidelined.
“We feel some of our preferred candidates who had the interests of Kakumiro at heart were fought by powerful government figures, and others were declared unopposed. Many residents are still unhappy about that,” he added.
Efforts to obtain comments from both Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and State Minister Fred Byamukama were unsuccessful by press time, as repeated phone calls to the two leaders went unanswered.
The Ankole Times has learned that political tensions remain high in Kakumiro following recent NRM party structure elections, with some residents expressing concerns that internal party divisions could further affect development and unity in the district.
Residents are now calling upon President Museveni and the NRM leadership to foster reconciliation among local leaders and encourage cooperation aimed at advancing the district’s development agenda.
