Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Collision with Bus in Kanungu
motorcyclist was killed instantly following a tragic road crash involving a passenger bus in Kanungu District on Thursday evening.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, the fatal accident occurred on June 12, 2026, at approximately 6:59 p.m. at Kyakatarangi Cell, Kihihi Town Council, along the Ishasha–Rukungiri Road.
The deceased was identified as Ariho Dickson, who was riding a red Bajaj motorcycle registration number UMA 237AX. The motorcycle collided head-on with a Perfect Bus Company vehicle, registration number UBPB 248U, a King Long bus.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the motorcyclist was travelling from Ishasha Roundabout towards Rukungiri when, upon reaching a forested section at Kyakatarangi, he collided with the oncoming bus that was heading in the opposite direction from Rukungiri towards Ishasha.
Police officers from Kihihi Police Station responded promptly to the scene. The body of the deceased was conveyed to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
SP Nelson Tumushime has urged all road users to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution while using the roads to prevent similar tragedies.
