The remains of celebrated Ugandan actress Sally Elizabeth Bwamimpeke have finally been returned home, weeks after her death in Canada following a battle with breast cancer.

Sally, who became a familiar face in Uganda’s film industry through her role as Jasmine in the popular Prestige television series, passed away in May 2026 after spending a considerable period undergoing treatment abroad.

Her death sent shockwaves through Uganda’s creative community, with fellow actors, fans and well-wishers mourning the loss of an actress many remembered for her warmth, talent and contribution to the country’s growing film industry.

In the days that followed her passing, a fundraising campaign was launched to facilitate the repatriation of her remains. Through a GoFundMe initiative and contributions from supporters both in Uganda and abroad, enough funds were raised to ensure that the actress would receive a final send-off in her homeland.

On Sunday, Sally’s body arrived in Uganda and was received by family members, friends and loved ones who gathered to welcome her home.

The family has since announced funeral arrangements ahead of her burial.

According to a statement released by relatives, a requiem service will be held at St. Yusuf Lugalama Church of Uganda in Buye-Kigoowa before mourners gather for an evening vigil in Ntinda-Kigoowa.

On Tuesday, June 16, a final funeral service will take place in Mpanga, Zirobwe, after which the late actress will be laid to rest at her ancestral grounds in Mpangati, Zirobwe.

Sally Bwamimpeke leaves behind a legacy built through years of storytelling and performance, with many in Uganda’s film fraternity remembering her as one of the familiar faces who helped shape the country’s television industry.
