Woman Arrested in Hoima Over Alleged Fatal Stabbing of Husband
Police in Hoima City are holding a 37-year-old woman, Moreen Atuhura, a resident of Kiryatete Cell in Hoima East Division, over allegations that she stabbed her husband to death during a domestic confrontation. The incident occurred on Sunday at around 11:45 p.m. along Freedom Street in Hoima City. Preliminary information indicates that Atuhura went to Freedom Street, where her husband, Michael Ocen, 39, was playing Ludo with friends before confronting him over allegations that he had assaulted their four-year-old son for yet-to-be-established reasons.
A fight reportedly ensued between the couple, during which Atuhura, who was allegedly armed with a knife, stabbed Ocen several times in the chest. Ocen was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead on arrival. After the incident, Atuhura reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was arrested by members of the public who later handed her over to Hoima City Police.
A neighbour to the couple, Godfrey Byamukama, said the pair, who had been cohabiting in a rented house, had a history of unresolved domestic disputes. Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect, saying statements had been recorded from witnesses and investigations were ongoing. Police also visited the scene and recovered the alleged murder weapon. Hakiza said the suspect will be arraigned in court on charges of murder upon completion of investigations.
