The Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu-OBR has announced a four-day period of official mourning following the death of Kibaba Lodrick Ngangasi. Ngangasi has been the Royal Deputy Minister of Culture Heritage, Native Administration. He passed away on Sunday at the age of 46.

Family members confirmed that he succumbed to complications from hepatitis B and ulcers. A special sitting of the Rwenzururu Kingdom Council was held at Kibaba’s home in Kiharimu Kyaminyoku, Kasese Municipality, to honour his memory.

The session was presided over by Noah Nzaghare, the kingdom’s Speaker. During the gathering, Nzaghare noted the importance of seeking medical check-ups early, especially for non-communicable diseases, to enable timely treatment.

In a statement, Prime Minister, Baritazale Kule Benson praised his dedication, noting that the kingdom will observe a four-day mourning period to honor his contributions. Several ministers and officials praised Kibaba’s devotion to culture and community development, describing him as a leader who prioritized the interests of his people.

Rev. Ezra Mukonzo, Minister of Religious Affairs, called on mourners to refrain from mixing cultural practices with witchcraft, condemning what he termed as “satanic acts” wrongly associated with traditional customs. Kibaba, who was also a teacher, leaves behind 11 children. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday in Mbunga Sub-county, Kasese District-URN.
