Shock in Rubanda as Nursery Pupil is Murdered While Returning Home

Police in Rubanda District have launched a manhunt for a 17-year-old suspect accused of killing a seven-year-old pupil in Nyamweru Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Ainebyona Hosea, a pupil at Hamukobakoba Nursery School. He was allegedly killed on Tuesday at about 6:00 p.m. in Kyokezo Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county.

The suspect, identified as Ainamani Bureya, a peasant and resident of the same area, is currently on the run.

According to the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, preliminary investigations indicate that the child was attacked while returning home from school. He said the suspect reportedly used a blunt object suspected to have been fashioned from a panga.

SP Tumushime said police officers from Rubanda responded swiftly to the incident, visited and processed the crime scene, and commenced investigations into the matter.

He urged parents and guardians to always escort young children to and from school to enhance their safety.

He also called upon school administrators to strengthen measures aimed at protecting learners and ensuring their safety both within and outside school premises.

He said that investigations into the incident are ongoing as police intensify efforts to apprehend the suspect.
