Ssenyonyi Challenges Museveni Over Muhoozi’s Conduct
Leader of the Opposition and Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi has urged President Yoweri Museveni to take action against Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, accusing him of alleged threats, rights abuses, and disregard for the law.
Speaking on the matter, Ssenyonyi questioned why the Head of State had not intervened despite repeated concerns raised by opposition leaders over the conduct of senior security officials.
“When are you going to take action against this son of yours?” he asked.
Ssenyonyi also expressed frustration over what he described as intimidation of citizens and continued political statements attributed to Gen. Muhoozi on social media.
“Muhoozi, who the hell are you? How do you play with Ugandan citizens’ lives like that and still go on social media to issue more threats?” he said.
He further accused security actors of using force and intimidation against citizens, warning that the Opposition would not be silenced.
“We are not going to be intimidated. You can’t move around hurting people in the name of God… We won’t tolerate this nonsense,” he added.
The Opposition leader said their role in Parliament is to monitor government performance and hold leaders accountable when they fail to uphold service delivery, order, and constitutional responsibility.
He argued that continued silence from the top leadership risks weakening public trust in state institutions.
The remarks add to ongoing political debate over the role of senior military officials in public discourse and the boundaries between political authority and military command.
