Kiboga: One Arrested, Three on the Run for Aiding Abortion
Police in Kiboga District are holding a 17-year-old girl and hunting for three other suspects over an alleged illegal abortion and disposal of a fetus in a pit latrine. The case came to light after residents of Kajjere village, Kibiga Subcounty, raised alarm when they noticed that Nampijja Sarah, who had been visibly pregnant, suddenly appeared with a flat abdomen. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the fetus of a female unborn child from the pit latrine of a resident, Wasswa Ibrahim.
According to police, Nampijja confessed that she had procured an abortion with the help of her mother, Nakibuule Jesca, her sister, Nalugo Justine, and a medical worker in Kajjere village who allegedly supplied her with drugs to induce premature labour. The drugs were reportedly administered twice on 15 June 2026, during the day and at night, and Nampijja is said to have aborted at about 2:00am on 16 June 2026, after which the fetus was dumped in the pit latrine. A report was filed, the scene was visited, and the fetus retrieved and examined.
Villagers allege that Nakibuule had previously been in a relationship with a man identified as Bakuza Brian, who later left her for her daughter, Nampijja, and that the pregnancy may have fuelled jealousy. Community members claim Nakibuule had been heard vowing that the baby would never be born alive. Since the incident, Nakibuule, Nalugo and the unidentified medical worker have gone into hiding as police intensify the search.
Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP L. Kigozi condemned the incident and urged the public to desist from abortion and infanticide, warning that such acts are life-threatening and carry serious criminal penalties under Ugandan law.
