Matheus Cunha's mother was seen shedding tears of joy as her son scored twice for Brazil at the World Cup. The versatile attacker is amongst several Manchester United players who have shone on the global stage across North America in recent weeks.
Having come off the bench during Brazil's opening draw against Morocco, Cunha did enough to earn a starting berth for the clash with Haiti in the early hours of Saturday morning and he wasted little time in making his presence felt. Just 23 minutes into proceedings, Cunha displayed predatory instincts by pouncing on a rebound from Vinicius Jr's attempt, slotting home from close quarters to put his country ahead. Barely 10 minutes later, he had added a second to his account.
A crisp pass from Vini Jr released Cunha through the Haitian defensive line, before he unleashed a ferocious left-footed strike into the top of Johny Placide's near corner. While celebrations erupted on the pitch, supporters inside the Philadelphia Stadium were equally overcome with emotion — none more so than Cunha's mother.
In footage shared on social media, she can be seen standing with her hands pressed to her head in sheer disbelief, tears of joy rolling down her cheeks as a fellow supporter offers comfort.
The camera then cuts to Cunha, who is grinning broadly on the pitch as he turns towards his mother in the stands and triumphantly pumps his fist.
Having played a pivotal role in both goals, Vini Jr struck on the stroke of half-time to seal a 3-0 victory for Brazil, propelling them to the summit of Group C with four points.
As a result, they have booked their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup, irrespective of the outcome of their final group game against Scotland.

This follows a string of impressive World Cup performances from several United players.
Casemiro, who will depart the club this summer, also proved instrumental in Brazil's triumph over Haiti, completing the full 90 minutes.
Noussair Mazraoui likewise contributed to a clean sheet in Morocco's victory over Scotland on Friday night.
Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot are representing Portugal, although the latter is yet to take to the field for his country at this summer's competition.
Amad, meanwhile, turns his attention to the Ivory Coast's encounter with Germany on Saturday evening.
Senne Lammens, Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford are also currently representing their respective nations.
