Akali Sub-county LCIII Chairperson Julius Peter Ongom said complaints from residents have created fear among some government workers, with reports that a number of implementers are considering abandoning their duties due to growing mistrust from the community.

According to Ongom, residents accused the chairperson, members of the Parish Development Committee (PDC) and parish officials of failing to follow the programme guidelines by selecting only four beneficiaries from some cells instead of the required 10.

He said the allegations have strained relations between implementers and residents, making it difficult for officials to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

The Kwania District LCV Chairperson, George Kakoma Akacha, urged government workers to perform their duties professionally and without bias. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to government guidelines while implementing programmes to avoid allegations of corruption and ensure fairness in service delivery.

Akacha noted that proper implementation of government interventions is essential in maintaining public trust and ensuring that intended beneficiaries receive support.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Kwania District, Robert Okwanga Alem, said his office had not received any official reports of government workers resigning or abandoning work due to the controversy.

However, he called upon all civil servants involved in implementing government programmes to observe the established procedures and guidelines. Okwanga revealed that the matter concerning the cattle restocking programme had already been reported to the Central Police Station in Kwania District, where investigations are underway.

He encouraged members of the public with similar complaints to report them to the police, noting that a case file had already been opened to facilitate investigations into the allegations.

Okwanga also announced plans to convene a meeting with parish chiefs to remind them of their responsibilities and the proper procedures for engaging communities whenever concerns arise during programme implementation.

Earlier this week, police in Kwania District arrested Abwong Parish Chief Conny Ejang and LCII Chairperson Vincent Otile over allegations of registering beneficiaries who were not residents of the parish and failing to follow guidelines governing the cattle restocking programme.

By press time, the two suspects were being released on police bond as investigations continued.
