Florence Nampijja: The painful dating rumors that nearly wrecked a marriage

Renowned media personality and actress Florence Nampijja has opened up about one of the most painful periods of her life, recalling how false dating rumors left her emotionally distressed and thrust her into unwanted public scrutiny.

Nampijja revealed that she once woke up to find herself trending online after reports falsely linked her romantically to Ahmed Lubowa, a prominent and married public figure.

She admitted that coping with the allegations was extremely difficult.

According to her, the rumors were particularly damaging because they had the potential to destroy Lubowa’s marriage and tarnish the reputations of everyone involved.

One time I was accused of dating one of the prominent, powerful, married gentlemen in the country who holds a high office, and I was published in the news. It was really disturbing and hurting. It was too bad because it could have led to the wrecking of someone’s marriage.

She further revealed that the speculation escalated to alarming levels, with some individuals allegedly traveling to Dubai in an attempt to gather evidence after rumors circulated that the two had been spotted together there.

It went too far because after people talked about it, some tried to find evidence. They spread gossip that we had been seen together in Dubai and even went to hotels there to verify whether it was true.

Nampijja added that the situation became even more invasive when people allegedly orchestrated the theft of her phone in an attempt to obtain information that could support the rumors.

At one point, they even set up someone to steal my phone. It was unbelievable, but it happened. I was really angry about it.
