Police in Mukono District have arrested a man suspected of being behind a series of motorcycle robberies following an operation conducted in Kasawo Sub-county.

The suspect, identified as Julius Kyeyune, also known as Kavuma, was arrested on June 20, 2026, at around 8:00 a.m. during a police operation in Kakira Village, Nagalama Police Division.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachel Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that Kyeyune allegedly posed as a passenger seeking transport services from boda boda riders operating outside Kasawo.

Police say the suspect would request transportation to Kasawo and, upon reaching the area, allegedly direct riders to isolated locations within Kakira Village, particularly near the expansive sugarcane plantations, where he would rob them of their motorcycles.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect would travel to locations outside Kasawo and pose as a passenger seeking transportation to Kasawo. Upon arrival, he would allegedly direct the boda boda rider to an isolated area within Kakira Village where he would rob the rider of his motorcycle,” Kawala said.

Following his arrest, police conducted a search at the suspect's residence and recovered several items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

The recovered exhibits include housebreaking implements such as metal bars, cutters, pangas, motorcycle spare parts, helmets, and other related items.

Police also recovered a motorcycle number plate, UGB 722Q, which is suspected to belong to an unidentified motorcycle.

Other items recovered included metal materials believed to be used in the fabrication of forged number plates, two AK-47 rifle cartridges, several mobile phones, old motorcycle inner tubes, jackets, and two driving permits.

“The recovered exhibits have been secured to aid ongoing investigations. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be connected to the criminal activities,” Kawala added.

Police said investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to dismantle the suspected criminal network.
