President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday rallied residents of Kalangala District to vote for National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Idah Nabayiga in the forthcoming District Woman Member of Parliament by-election, saying the ruling party remains best placed to advance development in the island district.

Addressing a packed campaign rally at Kibanga Playground in Kalangala Town Council, Museveni received a warm welcome from senior NRM leaders, local officials, and hundreds of supporters who turned up for the final major campaign event ahead of Wednesday’s polls.

The NRM National Chairman urged voters to overwhelmingly support Nabayiga, describing her as a capable leader who would effectively represent the district’s interests and work closely with government to deliver services and development programs.

Museveni highlighted the government’s achievements in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, assuring residents that more interventions were planned to improve livelihoods in the district.

He called on the electorate to maintain support for the ruling party, arguing that continued cooperation between local leaders and the central government was essential for accelerating development and addressing challenges affecting island communities.

The President also appealed for peaceful participation in the electoral process, urging voters to reject divisive politics and focus on leaders committed to serving the people.

Speaking at the rally, Nabayiga thanked Museveni and the NRM leadership for their support and pledged to champion the interests of Kalangala residents if elected. She promised to prioritize issues including improved transport, access to social services, youth empowerment, and economic opportunities for women and fishing communities.

Several NRM leaders who addressed the gathering expressed confidence that the party would secure victory in the by-election, citing what they described as growing support for the ruling party across the district.

The Kalangala District Woman MP by-election is scheduled for Wednesday, with candidates making their final push for votes as campaigning draws to a close.
