Jordan have left a lasting impression on football fans globally for leaving their dressing room in an astonishingly spotless condition after exiting the World Cup. The nation are taking part in the tournament for the first time in their history.
Drawn in Group J, Jordan lost their opening match to Austria and headed into their second game against Algeria needing a positive result to avoid elimination. Manager Jamal Sellami’s side took the lead in the first-half through Nizar Al-Rashdan.
Algeria responded after the interval, with Nadhir Benbouali getting the equaliser and Amine Gouiri completing the comeback in the 82nd minute. The result meant Jordan were knocked out of the World Cup as, even with a shock win over reigning champions Argentina in their next game, the team would be unable to overtake Austria or Algeria based on their head-to-head record.
Despite experiencing an early World Cup exit, Jordan earned a place in the hearts of many fans after footage of their post-Algeria dressing room was shared on social media. The team ensured the room at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium was pristine and left sweets and other gifts behind for stadium staff, along with a heartwarming note.
As seen in a TikTok video shared by FIFA, the Jordan team’s message read: “Thank you for helping to make Jordan’s first FIFA World Cup experience a truly unforgettable one. Your dedication, professionalism, and warm hospitality have contributed to a memorable occasion for our team and supporters.
“As a small gesture of appreciation, we are pleased to share with you some of Jordan’s traditional sweets, a taste of our rich traditions and renowned hospitality. With our sincere gratitude and best wishes, Team Jordan.”
This act of kindness impressed supporters worldwide and was also praised by Jordanian football fans. In the comments on FIFA’s post, one social media user wrote: “Lost the match but won our hearts.”
A second commented: “This is a great culture. Much respect Team Jordan.” A third added: “They are the best.” A fourth responded: “So proud to be a Jordanian.”
A fifth replied: “We might've lost and got eliminated but won the hearts of millions.” Another Jordan fan said: “This is our culture and tradition in Jordan. We've been taught to leave every place better than we found it. This is what we do wherever we go and whenever we represent our beloved country, Jordan. That's why we're proudly called the Nashama.”

Jordan are set to play Argentina in their final group game on Sunday (3am UK time) before bowing out of the World Cup. However, the team’s humble gesture after losing to Algeria was lauded by FIFA on social media.
The governing body’s caption read: “Ultimate respect. This is how @FIFA World Cup debutants Jordan left their changing room after their match against Algeria.
“Jordan’s debut at the FIFA World Cup ended with a moment that captured sportsmanship and respect. After their match against Algeria, the Jordan team left their changing room in a way that moved many viewers — a quiet, respectful exit that acknowledged the occasion and their opponents.”
Jordan are not the first nation to be praised for tidying up after themselves at a World Cup. Japan have been applauded for similar conduct at numerous World Cups, with their fans also taking the same approach in the stands, including after the country's statement win over Germany in 2022.
