Manchester United face Premier League rival for Andrey Santos after Chelsea transfer decision
Standard Sport understands that Newcastle are also interested in Santos, who, while appreciated by Chelsea, is open to a move elsewhere this summer in search of regular first-team minutes.
Moises Caicedo’s contract extension means that Santos is likely to remain as the Ecuadorian’s understudy next season, and the 22-year-old is now exploring his options.
Chelsea want to keep Santos, but do not view the Brazilian as untouchable and would be open to selling him if the price was right.
They hold the same view on Trevoh Chalobah, who is attracting interest from Italy and is keen on a move abroad after conversations with former Chelsea team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Santos made just 13 Premier League starts last season, and though he showed glimpses of his quality, both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior struggled to trust him in place of Caicedo.
Standard Sport understands that Chelsea are also open to selling Alejandro Garnacho, just one year after he joined the club from Manchester United in a deal worth around £40million.
The 22-year-old is attracting interest, with several clubs in the market for wingers this summer, but no club-to-club talks have taken place.
Chelsea are only open to letting Garnacho, who scored just one Premier League goal last season, leave on a permanent deal and would not entertain any loan offers for the Argentinian.
Despite scoring eight goals in all competitions last season, Garnacho struggled for consistency and made just 14 league starts.
The arrival of Portuguese teenager Geovany Quenda from Sporting means that Chelsea are set to revamp their wide options again this summer, and Garnacho has been deemed surplus to requirements.
New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is also in the market for wing-backs to play in his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation, and there would be an expectation that any wingers at the club would have to fulfil defensive as well as attacking responsibilities, which Garnacho has often struggled with.
Chelsea return to pre-season training on Thursday, July 9, with Santos and Garnacho both expected to report to the club’s Cobham training ground.
