We Want Partnership, Not Confrontation” – Incoming Daily Monitor & NTV Owners Allegedly Seek Fresh Start With Museveni Government

The prospective new owners of Nation Media Group (NMG), the parent company of Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda, have reportedly assured the Ugandan government that they intend to build a cooperative relationship with state institutions once the acquisition process is finalized.According to sources, Tanzanian businessman Rostam Aziz made the remarks during discussions with senior government officials, emphasizing that his team currently has no authority over NMG operations because the takeover has not yet received all the necessary regulatory approvals.

“We have no powers right now, so whatever happened, we are sorry. We don’t seek to be antagonistic and adversarial,” Aziz reportedly told the meeting. The comments are being viewed as an effort to ease long-standing tensions between the media house and government officials.

Sources say the discussions focused on strengthening professionalism, improving relations with state institutions, and exploring the future direction of the company after the ownership transition. The proposed acquisition of NMG’s controlling stake from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) remains pending regulatory clearance in several jurisdictions.

Until the deal is completed, the incoming owners cannot formally take control of Daily Monitor, NTV Uganda, or other NMG operations. As the approval process continues, journalists, employees, and the public remain keenly interested in the future of the media outlets and the timeline for a return to normal operations.
