Honor Gen. Moses Ali’s Legacy by Ending Abductions and Illegal Detentions” — Ssenyonyi Challenges Museveni

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has urged President Yoweri Museveni to end alleged abductions, illegal detention facilities and violations of citizens’ rights, saying this would be a true way to honour the late Gen. Moses Ali.Ssenyonyi made the remarks during a special parliamentary sitting held in memory of Gen. Moses Ali, attended by President Museveni and other senior government officials.

While welcoming the President, Ssenyonyi called on him, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to ensure that security agencies operate within the law and respect constitutional rights.He said Gen. Moses Ali’s legacy should not only be remembered through speeches but also through strengthening the rule of law and protecting Ugandans’ freedoms.

Ssenyonyi raised concerns over reports of people being arrested by security agencies and held for long periods without access to their families, lawyers or courts.“People are abducted and taken for days, weeks and even months. Sometimes they are tortured, their families do not know their whereabouts, and they are not produced in court. This is not right,” he said.

He reminded the government that the Constitution requires suspects to be handled through lawful procedures, including being presented before court within the required 48 hours.His remarks come amid continued concerns from opposition figures, especially the National Unity Platform (NUP), over the alleged disappearance and detention of some of its members, including Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi.Ssenyonyi also praised Gen. Moses Ali as a leader whose life reflected reconciliation, public service and commitment to Uganda despite the country’s political differences
