MoH Begins Nationwide Performance Review to Strengthen Health System

The Ministry of Health has launched a three-day performance review meeting to assess the implementation of its work plans for the third and fourth quarters of the 2025/2026 financial year, in a move aimed at improving healthcare service delivery across the country.

The review, which runs until Friday, brings together the Ministry’s leadership, heads of departments and technical teams to evaluate progress, identify implementation gaps, share best practices and strengthen the delivery of quality health services.

The meeting will be officially opened by the Minister of Health, Chris Baryomunsi, who called on participants to align their work with Uganda’s broader development agenda, including global, continental and regional commitments, the National Development Plans and the NRM Manifesto 2026–2031.

He emphasized that every health intervention should contribute to achieving the country’s shared development goals and reiterated President Yoweri Museveni’s policy of prioritizing health promotion and disease prevention to reduce the burden and cost of treating illnesses.

The Permanent Secretary, Diana Atwine, urged participants to use the review as an opportunity for honest reflection, accountability and continuous improvement.

“A strong health system is built through accountability, teamwork and a commitment to learning. Let us use this review to celebrate our achievements, address our gaps and renew our resolve to deliver quality, people-centred healthcare for every Ugandan,” Dr. Atwine said.

Dr. Baryomunsi also highlighted the need to address health workforce challenges, expressing concern that many qualified health professionals remain unemployed while public health facilities continue to face critical staffing shortages.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector and ensuring Ugandans have access to efficient, people-centred healthcare services.
