Breaking! Tooro Kingdom in Turmoil as King Oyo Reportedly Hospitalised in ICU in US Over Cancer!

Fort Portal-Tooro Kingdom has been plunged into uncertainty following reports that its youthful monarch, Omukama Rukirabasaija Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in the United States.

TheSpy Uganda has reliably learnt from our Karuzika Palace sources close to the royal family that the 34-year-old Omukama, who is world’s youngest King, has reportedly been receiving medical attention in the US where he is said to have spent several months.

Sources claim that the King is battling cancer, although the royal household had, by press time, not issued an official public statement confirming the diagnosis or the reported ICU admission.

The hospital where the King is reportedly receiving treatment has also not been named for fear his subjects in US would over crowd is scampering to have a glance at their youngest King in the world.

A source within the royal circles told TheSpy Uganda on Sunday that the royal family had initially chosen to keep the King’s health condition private to avoid alarming his subjects.

“Things are getting out of hand. We first kept it a top secret but if we don’t talk now, it will be hard to convince the subjects that he has been sick. Remember the circumstances under which his father, King David Matthew Kaboyo, died and the controversies that followed? We have to mitigate similar scenarios. Let the subjects know and pray for their King,” the source said.

THE KING AND QUEEN MOTHER SICKNESS

The reports have added another layer of concern among members of the royal family because the King’s mother, Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, is also reportedly in the United States seeking medical attention over a strange disease, for months now.

According to the source, the Queen Mother and her son have at times attended hospital appointments together during their stay in the US but each treatment a different disease by different doctors.

Back in Uganda, concern has also reportedly grown over the health of Prince David Kiijanangoma Araali, a cousin to the King, who is still battling advanced throat cancer at Mulago Cancer Institute where he has been for months now.

WHO IS KING OYO?

Born on 16 April 1992, Oyo became the Omukama of Tooro at the age of just three following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew David Kaboyo Olimi III, in 1995. Kaboyo’s death caused mayhem i Tooro because it was sudden. Atleast there were no reports that claimed he had been sick. This, up to now, has created rumors he could have been poisoned because he died complaining of excruciating stomach pains and complications. A section of Olimi’s family even asked for a postmortem report, which was equally blocked by another group of the royal family, and yo to now, it has never seen light. No one has ever got a chance to have a glance at his report, atleast for a second.

BACK TO OYO

Oyo’s accession made him the world’s youngest reigning monarchs and earned him international attention. Because of his age, the affairs of the Kingdom were initially handled under a regency arrangement as the young King grew up.

Oyo’s coronation took place on 17 April 1995 at the historic Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal, when he was only three years old.

The young monarch subsequently grew into his role, receiving education and undertaking royal and public engagements in Uganda and abroad.

Over the years, Oyo has been presented as a symbol of Tooro’s continuity, particularly following the restoration of Uganda’s traditional institutions in the 1990s.

His reign has also coincided with efforts to position Tooro as a cultural institution capable of contributing to development, tourism, environmental conservation, education and the welfare of its people.

TOORO: A KINGDOM WITH A LONG HISTORY

Tooro is one of Uganda’s traditional kingdoms and has its historical heartland in the Rwenzori region of western Uganda, with Fort Portal serving as the seat of the Kingdom.

The Kingdom’s history is closely connected to the Batoro, as well as other communities that have historically lived within its territory.

The Tooro monarchy has passed through generations of Abakama (Kings) , with the institution playing a major cultural role in the identity and traditions of the people.

The royal institution was abolished by the government of President Milton Obote in 1967, alongside Uganda’s other traditional kingdoms.

It was restored in 1993 under President Yoweri Museveni, paving the way for the return of the Tooro monarchy.

Oyo’s father, Patrick Matthew David Kaboyo Olimi III, became the first Omukama of Tooro following the restoration of the institution. His death in 1995 brought the three-year-old Oyo to the throne.

Oyo therefore represents the latest generation of a royal institution whose history stretches across centuries and remains deeply embedded in the cultural identity of the Batoro.

FEARS OF ANOTHER ROYAL HEALTH CONTROVERSY

The current reports have inevitably revived memories of the death of Oyo’s father, King Patrick Matthew David Kaboyo Olimi III, whose death in 1995 generated considerable public interest and controversy.

It is against that background, according to the royal source, that some members of the family now want the public to be made aware of the King’s reported health difficulties.

For many Batoro, however, the immediate concern is not politics or palace intrigue but the health of their monarch.

If the reports concerning Oyo’s condition are confirmed, they would represent one of the most serious health crises to confront the Tooro royal family since the restoration of the Kingdom.

For now, the Batoro at home and abroad are left waiting for an official word from Karuzika Palace regarding the condition of their King.

And as uncertainty grows, the message from within the royal circles is simple: pray for Omukama Oyo.
