Police in Kigezi Issue Safety Guidelines as Schools Break for End of Term II Holidays

Police in the Kigezi Sub-region have issued safety guidelines to schools, parents, guardians and transport operators as schools break for the End of Term II holidays.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime says police will enhance security to ensure the safe movement of learners returning home, as well as protect their property during the holiday period.

Tumushime urged school administrators to liaise with area District Police Commanders and Officers in Charge of police stations to ensure an orderly release of learners and avoid night travel.

Parents and guardians have also been advised to pick up their children from school in time and ensure they are not left unattended. They have been encouraged to use licensed transporters and avoid overloaded vehicles.

Police further cautioned learners travelling through water bodies, particularly Lake Bunyonyi, to use life jackets and observe water safety guidelines.

Parents were also urged to maintain communication with their children throughout the holiday and engage them in productive activities, including skills development and church activities, to keep them occupied.

Transport operators have been reminded to release learners during daylight hours, preferably before 5:00 p.m., while drivers have been warned against drink-driving, speeding and overloading.

Police have also called on the public to report suspicious persons around schools, taxi parks and bus parks to the authorities.
